UNGS 1201: YOUTH DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITY

Several times passess when I heard about the idea and discussion to start and develop a project that includes business related from the elders in my family. They discussed how to open up an opportunity to the youth in order to work on something that can be used as a resource to support life. One of their concerns includes the unemployment of the young generations that may suppress in order to sustain their needs with the rapid economic development today. In fact, now the ideas in brainstorming and discussions had led to the progress of establishing a business conducted by a young man that graduated as an engineer. In part of that, the elders are still in supporting lines to give the advice and having the discussion on how to have a better development.

At first,  I thought that it was just a simple act of kindness that was established by the elders to help the young generations to build up their career. Later, I realize that the action taken by the elders actually is a step that could contribute to sustainable development. When the elders open up opportunities such as in the field of business management, some of the younger generation can benefit from it by no longer being unemployed after graduating. Besides, it allows them to improve their economic growth as well.

After learning about the process of thinking, I realize that, we will not be able to find the value derived from a situation if we just focus on the conclusion or the results. For example, at first, I did not even realize that the action taken by the elders in my family to start a family business is a subject to open up an opportunity for the youth to be able to participate themselves in the organization.

Through the exposure of the concept of sustainable development goals in class, I am able to connect the situation to one of the goals, that it may be far from giving the impact to the country as a whole, but it is applicable as the process implemented having the same goals as it is projected in the society. I believe that the situation is relatable to the goal of promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation. When it comes to business, innovation is the most crucial aspect to be presented and promoted as it is the main element that will determine the development of a business. Hence, in having the opportunity opened to youth of having the base to conduct a business, it will allow many more new ideas and innovation to enable a sustainable development of the project.

In addition, I realize that this situation is completely applicable with the basic concept of Maqasid Shariah of Hifz Al-Maal (Protect the wealth). Likewise, the main goal of the project is to enable the opportunity to the young generation to stabilize their economy and income.
