What is Bloom's Taxonomy?

Bloom's Taxonomy is a hierarchical ordering of cognitive skills that can, among countless other uses, help teachers teach and students learn.

It is also to help learner prompt deeper thinking.


Bloom's Taxonomy is a hierarchy of learning objectives. It's original purpose was to give educators a common language to talk about curriculum design and assessment.

Today, it's used by teachers all around the world!

The framework can be used to:

  • Create assessments
  • Evaluate the assignment
  • Plan a lesson
  • Simplify an activity to help personalize learning
  • Design a summative assessment
  • Frame a group discussion
It is really useful and helpful tool for teachers in planning the teaching process. It is because it's provide the right verbs for learning intentions and objectives.


The 6 Levels of Bloom's Taxonomy

1. To Remember 

  • Memorizing a poem
  • Remember math formulas
2. To Understand
  • Organize the animal kingdom based on a  given framework
  • Illustrate the difference between a rectangle and square
  • Summarize the plot of simple story
3. To Apply
  • Use a formula to solve a problem
  • Select a design to meet a purpose
4. To Analyze
  • Identify the 'parts of' democracy
  • Explain why a machine isn't working
5. To Evaluate
  • Interpret the relative value from a story
  • Reflect on the significance of a given law of physics
6. To Create
  • Write a poem based on a given theme
  • Design a new solution for an issue
In sum, this theory are really useful for every teachers to apply it in creating the content of materials and courses. Remember that, it is important for a teacher to plan before conveying the content of learning because Preparation is the key to success.
